About Ahmedabad
A commercial hub and a rising centre of Information Technology, Automobile, Chemical and Textile Industries, Ahmedabad (also known as Amdavad) is the largest city in the Indian state of Gujarat. It is located on the banks of river Sabarmati and was home to India's Freedom Fighter and Father of the Nation – Mahatma Gandhi.

Popular festivals include Uttarayan – an annual kite-flying day on 14th January and the nine nights of Navratri, celebrated by performing the Garba – a well-known folk dance of Gujarat. The local cuisine of Ahmedabad is a typical vegetarian Gujarati 'Thali' with pickles and roasted papadams. The best time to visit Ahmedabad is during the winter season between October and March when the weather is pleasant, which makes it ideal for sightseeing and enjoying various outdoor activities. The minimum temperature in Ahmedabad at this time is about 10 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature usually goes up to approximately 25 degrees Celsius.

Sabarmati Ashram (Mahatma Gandhi's Home) – This historical place served as a base for Mahatma Gandhi’s relentless non-violent activities for India’s freedom and it was from here that he led the momentous Dandi March, also known as the Salt Satyagraha, in March 1930. Today, it houses handicrafts, handmade paper and spinning wheels, as also some rare pictures and letters of the great Mahatma.

Akshardham Temple – Dedicated to Lord Swaminarayan, the temple complex combines art, architecture, education, research, exhibitions and devotion, all in one place, spread over 23 acres. They have various shows throughout the day showcasing rich Indian heritage including an incredible water show in the evening – one of the best you will find in India and one that is not to be missed.

Adalaj Stepwell – This unique and intricately carved water well is several stories in depth and served as a resting place for weary travellers and pilgrims. Adorned with exquisite motifs, the walls of this legendary well depict the tales of Queen Rudabai and are a spectacular example of Indo-Islamic architecture and design.

Jhulta Minara – Quite an unusual structure, the Jhulta Minara or swaying pillars are part of the mosque of Siddi Bashir and can be moved back and forth by applying a little force on the topmost arch. The mosque was built by master craftsmen and the crucial mechanism that leads to the vibrations is till today a mystery.

Kankaria Lake – It is the biggest lake in Ahmedabad and represents a royal history of the city. Its scenic beauty and local street food make this a popular and an enjoyable place to visit.
