Kochi (formerly known as Cochin) is a cosmopolitan city in Kerala on the west coast of India by the Arabian Sea. Chinese Fishing Nets – The Chinese fishing nets, known as Cheenavala are distinct to Kochi. Oddly, these nets are not found in China and only found in Kochi! Many fishermen earn their livelihood by using these massive fishing nets. An entire stretch of the coast along Fort Kochi is dotted with these nets.

Vasco House – Vasco house, located on Rose Street, is believed to be one of the oldest Portuguese houses in India, where Vasco da Gama is believed to have lived. This house features European glass paned windows and beautiful open verandas.

Santacruz Basilica – This is the first European Church built in Asia, by the Portuguese and is also the first Cathedral of Asia. Pope John Paul II declared it a Basilica in 1984. It houses several historical paintings, decors and artifacts.

Hill Palace Museum – Built in the 19th century by the Raja of Kochi, this Palace has today been converted into a museum displaying a fine collection of articles showcasing the wealth and splendour of the King of Kochi, including the throne, crown and a large collection of archaeological findings.

Cherai Beach – This charming golden beach with big sand grains, backwaters and historical monuments is ideal for swimming. The beach is lined by gorgeous coconut palm groves and paddy fields. Occasional sights of Dolphins are also an added attraction on this beach.
